The voice was cold and commanding. It held an undeniable authority that left no room for debate. Vespera and Nancy turned their heads in unison. Standing at the office door was Dominic, his face unreadable, yet his presence conveyed a palpable tension.
It was clear he was not happy about someone being on his floor without his approval. Gerard stood behind with a smile reminiscent of a peace ambassador, trying to ease the tense and stressful atmosphere, though fully aware it was a futile effort.
"Oh, Ms. Gildon is joining you for a business lunch? I wasn't aware of that," Nancy quickly replied.

Vespera felt a surge of irritation that nearly made her chuckle. "You two playing the role of my parents didn't even letknow beforehand." She simply smiled and held her tongue, knowing silence was the best response.
Dominic chimed in again, "It wasn't Ms. Gildon's doing. I decided at the last moment to bring her along." His usually stern eyes softened as they met Vespera's. "Ms. Gildon, please join me." Nancy glared at Dominic with intense bitterness as she thought, "Did he truly have to go out of his way to wound her like this?" Dominic didn't even spare her a glance. The tension in the air was palpable. Vespera couldn't bear the somber atmosphere of shared pain any longer.
She softly cleared her throat, rose from her seat, and addressed Nancy, "Ms. Acosta, since it's not possible today, let's arrange for another day." Samuel had recently promoted her to the role of executive administrative assistant. Nancy transitioned from her position as general manager at the branch company to becSamuel's executive administrative assistant. Despite years of hard work and coming from a modest background, she realized that in the eyes of the wealthy, she was merely a piece in their ongoing game. Her role was determined by others. To make matters worse, she had been manipulated by the assistant manager at the branch company.
For anyone else, avoiding demotion would have sufficed, but she still had the chance to return to the head office with flair. There was no avoiding it. After all, Fawn was her godmother.
"Alright, let's do it tomorrow then," Nancy agreed, taking the chance to retreat.
She understood that the circumstances were not on her side. They left the office together.
Dominic and Gerard had already left through the door, taking the elevator down just moments before. Gerard glanced at Dominic, who exuded a distant and detached vibe.
Was he somewhat intimidated by Nancy too? Concerned that she might unexpectedly have another emotional outburst. It was genuinely daunting, and understandably, any man would feel uneasy.
Vespera stepped into the elevator.
Since Nancy mentioned she was also heading out, they decided to ride down together. As they stood side by side, the silence between them felt a bit awkward. When the elevator reached the 18th floor, Nancy broke the silence.
"Ms. Gildon," she said, glancing at Vespera with a hint of apology, "You don't hold any grudges againstjust because Dominic and I were once in love, do you?" Vespera was speechless as she thought. "Hostility? Isn't that a word that's always been linked to you?" "Oh, no. Like you mentioned, that was in the past. I used to love other men too. Now he's resting in peace It's almost amusing when he occasionally emerges from the urn to pretend to be alive. So, there's no need to feel any psychological weight. Try to stay positive." Nancy fell silent. Her expression was icy, and her breathing was shallow. Vespera, seemingly oblivious, flashed a cheerful and innocent smile.
As the elevator doors parted, she waved and said, "See you tomorrow then." The moment she stepped out of the elevator, she stopped forcing a smile. As she moved along, she quietly muttered the word "idiot." She thought, "What's the big deal
about being in love, anyway? If he doesn't love you anymore, you should care even less. Be more indifferent than he is. Maybe then he'll cback to you, just like that bastard Luke."
However, she wasn't convinced that Dominic would react the sway. She approached the car waiting for her and got inside.
Gerard drove the car forward and glanced in the rearview mirror to his surprise Nancy appeared to be crouching and crying. He turned to Vespera and asked, "Did you make her cry?" Vespera shook her head and replied, "I swear, I was being supportive. Don't accuse me." Gerard responded, "I'm not convinced." Dominic observed the two of them exchanging expressions and commented, "You two should consider attending a school for the deaf and hearing-impaired. It might make communication easier for you." Vespera was speechless.
