Chapter 359: No regrets...

With Jessica awake, Davis rounded off his work as they both left his office, heading downstairs towards his car.

After her arrival, she had instructed the driver to return the car and told the guards not to bother waiting since she was just coming over to the company briefly.

She was certain that if she arrived at Davis' office, he wouldn't allow her to leave alone and not just that, but she also needed srest.

As they reached at his car, the driver was already waiting for them, along with just three guards who had been on standby.

Davis helped her settle down before he slid in beside her, and the door shut closed with a light thud.

The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, silently asking for direction. Davis, noting the brief pause, spoke calmly, "Drive to the hospital." The driver left the parking lot and headed towards the gate. As it pulled out of the company gates and joined the highway, the shadow guards followed, merging into the traffic effortlessly like ordinary commuters.

Seeing the car pull away from sight, Luke Norman stepped out of the shadows. His gaze trailed the car as it disappeared down the road.

His fist clenched briefly, and taking a deep breath, he released his hand and stepped forward but was halted by a voice behind him.

"Are you really just an assistant like you made Davis believe?" Vera asked, a mocking smile playing on her lips. She had been lurking in the shadows just to observe Davis and possibly to get a handle on him.

She wanted to observe whether Davis was really treating Jessica well behind closed doors or if it was just a camouflage to get what they wanted.

But she was more shocked when she found another shadow lurking around with his fist clenched, an attitude that piques her curiosity.

"Miss, do I know you?" Luke asked, turning to her.

""You may not know me," she said, stepping into the light, "but there's no harm in introductions. We could get to know each other right now." Her smile was light but probing.

Luke stared at her in silence for a while as though he was just seeing her for the first twhile he contemplated his options.

After a brief pause, he spoke, his voice cold and devoid of emotion. "Well, I guess you are right. Hello, maʼam." He greeted her with distant politeness.

Noting the ice in his tone and subtle disdain laced in his words, Vera's face twisted into several shades of colour, her anger palpable.

Yet, she carefully masked her anger as she took a deep breath to suppress her rage.

She still needed a partner, someone capable to pull herself out of the mess left behind by the Louis family.

As far as she was concerned, the Louis family's goals no longer mattered. Her priority now was clear: remove the Alpha Project from her hands, sever all ties to incriminating deals, and secure her position in the Allen family especially now that Aaron had refused to sign the divorce papers.

Luke, meanwhile, had no interest in her internal turmoil or how she felt. In his eyes, she would always be just another pawn, useful and disposable.

And at the moment, she had made the first move. Knowing the situation surrounding her, he was certain she was in desperate need of an ally.

Seeing her spacing out, his lips curled up with mocking concern. "Ma'am, are you okay?" ""Am... I'm okay," she stammered. "So, you're the new assistant assigned to the President, right?" she asked, stepping closer.

Luke took a step back. "Of course, I am," he said with a smirk.

"And what do I call you?" she asked, her eyes scanning his chiseled, emotionless face. She gulped. "He's not just handsome... he's dangerous," she mused internally. "Interesting." As she watched him, it becclear. Davis wouldn't realize what kind of man he'd brought close.

Forming an alliance with Luke might just be her best card yet to get herself away from the mess.

"Luke Norman," he said. His voice sliced through the silence.

"Luke Norman?" Vera chewed on the word as though it was a mystery "Why is she finding this na bit familiar? Why does it seem like a nthat is linked to the Louis and Allen family?" After a brief pause of contemplation, she shrugged internally. "You are welcthen. I am Vera Louis, the Vice President." Luke's eyes narrowed at the introduction, but he wouldn't let anyone destroy his dreams and his plans. He nodded and decided to leave.

As he spun around on his heel, Vera was surprised at how fast he walked.

"Hey Luke, you are leaving? We still have something to talk about," she called after him, yet she couldn't meet up to him.

In resignation, she turned around and left muttering. Yet both were unaware of a shadow guard who had captured and recorded the scene.

~Hospital~ Davis's car slowly pulled up in the hospital parking lot. Jessica sighed deeply as Davis pushed the door open and stepped out of the car. He bent slightly and helped Jessica out.

Bella stepped forward and pulled her into a warm hug. "Brother, Sister, you are here?" she greeted, her face beaming with smiles.

Jessica patted her lightly. "Let's go together." The group stepped into the lobby and rode the elevator together, chatting and laughing as the elevator dinged on its arrival on Elder Allen's private ward.

One after another, they stepped out of the elevator. With slow but steady footsteps, they passed through the hallway and arrived at his door.

The guards nodded in greeting as they tapped lightly on the door and pushed it in. Elder Allen was sitting on the bed with his back to the door and a magazine in his hand. Noting the entrance of someone into the ward, he dropped the magazine and glanced back.

His eyes brightened at the sight of people before him. His gaze flickered lightly as his eyes settled on Bella for a brief moment, his brow furrowed briefly, but he moved on and looked towards Jessica, who approached him with a warm smile.

"Grandpa," Jessica greeted him. Elder Allen felt his heart thumping with happiness. "Stand properly, lettake a good look at you." Jessica took a step closer. "That is great. That is great," he muttered, his tone cracking with emotion and his eyes reddened.

"Grandpa, what again?" Jessica asked.

The old man wiped his reddened eyes.

"Being alive to see another child of the Allen family and not just another child, but Davis' child I think I am blessed and have no regrets."

Jessica glanced at Davis just the sthe looked at her.

m "Grandpa, you also have another child of the Allen family, though you haven't seen her in a while," Davis said.

"Another child of the Allen family? Well, that would have been possible if not for my inability to keep you and your sister safe. If she was alive, maybe I would say there is another." His voice was painful and cracking with emotion.

Bella had always wondered about the scene of meeting her grandfather introducing herself to him-but never had she expected to meet a man with regrets and a burdened heart. Several thoughts raced through her mind.

Has he always been in this pain? Isn't it possible their misfortune had been the major reason for his health condition? Can it still be remedied? I really want to have a grandfather to showerwith love.

Lost in her thoughts, she didn't even notice when she was introduced.

Davis nudged her lightly.

She blinked and looked up.

The discussion had already been lost to her, that she didn't know when she was introduced.

"Are you really my granddaughter Bella?" Elder Allen asked, his voice almost coming as a whisper. "Yes," she chirped as her heart raced.

"That's great. That's great. No regrets," Elder Allen murmured as he stretched out his hands and pulled her into an embrace.

Setting his gaze on Davis as he led Jessica to the couch opposite the bed to sit down. Followed by Bella, whilst he walked over to the foot of the bed and sat down.

"Davis, I want to be discharged," the old man stated.

Recognizing a missing granddaughter and with the expectation of a great-grandchild in a couple of months, Elder Allen felt threatened, since so many things needed to be done.
