Chapter 449: You have a fever 1
The next day.
Edward Stephens didn’t need to go out today, a rare day off.
When he woke up, the air was tinged with a faint mist, and outside, he could hear the sound of rain hitting
against the glass windows.
It was raining.
He sat up in bed and heard laughter coming from downstairs, a rare instance of joyous sound that piqued his
curiosity.
After washing up, Edward, wearing slippers, leisurely went downstairs and saw Erin Ginger sitting on the sofa,
with a drawing board in front of her, surprisingly making a portrait of his housemaid.
A few finished pieces were already being shown around and whispered about. Seeing him coming down the
stairs, they immediately reined in their expressions and greeted him, "Good morning, Mr. Stephens!"
"You all..." He frowned.
"It’s like this," the housemaid explained, stepping forward, "Little Erin wanted to go sketching outside this
morning, but since it was raining, we persuaded him to practice his drawing at home." As she spoke, she couldn't
help but glance at Erin, praising, "This child is very well-behaved, doesn’t make a fuss, eats whatever he’s given,
and isn’t picky."
Beautiful and sensible children are always favored by adults.
Edward walked over, glanced a few times at Erin's easel, and noticed his skill in drawing was very adept; with
just a few strokes, he sketched out the contours of the model sitting in front.
Such skill, for a child from an ordinary family, would likely take four to five years of learning to becproficient.
This was probably talent.
A little past six, because of the rainy and overcast weather, it was still barely light. Edward sat across from Erin,
looking at the child whose features bore sresemblance to Daisy Ginger, and found himself slightly dazed.
He was just about to call the Shelton family to ask when they would cto pick him up when he heard hurried
footsteps outside the door.
He turned his head and saw Daisy Ginger, her hair let down, rushing in from the rain. Edward’s gentle demeanor
slightly shifted as he looked up at her.
The woman's face was pale, her body drenched in water. Only owners could drive in here, and without an

"Little Erin!"
Seeing her son sitting on the sofa, Daisy couldn't help but call out to him. She walked over but was afraid her
rain-soaked state would dirty him and stopped cautiously a meter away.
"Mommy is a bit late, but | brought you a birthday present," she retrieved an exquisitely wrapped small gift box
from her arms and presented it to Erin, "It's something you really like, do you want to open it and see?"
Little Erin sat on the sofa, his small face stern, using his brush to sketch and alter on the paper, completely
ignoring Daisy.
Daisy watched him with hope. Seeing her son not even glance back at her from start to end, she realized she
had thoroughly upset her usually good-tempered son, and she dejectedly withdrew her hand with her head
lowered.
She hadn't slept all night. Before the sky was fully bright, she had hurriedly driven over, worried about Erin's
safety.
Midway, she finally got through to James Shelton, who told her Erin had been picked up by Edward Stephens
from the street. She breathed a sigh of relief, but recalling Erin and Edward's blood relation filled her with dread.
She rushed to pick up a prepared birthday gift from her apartment and hurried to Edward Stephens’ residence,
intending to coax him back, not expecting Erin to completely ignore her.
The housemaid, seeing her drenched from head to toe, kindly brought over a dry towel and handed it to her,
"Miss Ginger, Little Erin is very safe here with Mr. Stephens, don’t worry. Go upstairs and take a hot shower to
prevent catching a cold."
Daisy took the towel, dabbed her face dry, looked at Erin who was ignoring her, pressed her lips together, and
whispered to the maid, "Thank you."
She placed the dry wrapped gift box on the coffee table and whispered to Erin, "Little Erin, Mommy will go
upstairs to take a shower first."
With his small face still stern, Erin did not look at her.
Daisy sighed gently and was led by the maid upstairs to take a shower.
Edward glanced at Erin, then at Daisy's retreating, rather pathetic figure, and raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Miss Ginger, we only have ladies’ robes here. We'll go buy a change of clothes for you now," the maid placed a
dry robe at the door and told her gently.
Daisy thanked her and, after showering, donned the robe and walked out from the bathroom.
Thinking about how she had forgotten Erin's birthday, she couldn't help but sigh in frustration.
The past month had been so busy, it made her head spin.
The sudden appearance of Edward Stephens left her in a state of distraction. The man she hadn't seen for four
years brought an indescribable emotional shock, causing her to completely forget about Erin’s birthday.
Additionally, with Elena Raven in Director Carter's new production, she, as the agent, also had to follow along,
working endlessly without teven to sleep. The month passed in a blur, and she ended up missing Erin’s
birthday like this.
Daisy, feeling down, lowered her head, intending to head downstairs again to try and coax him. Her forehead
bumped against something hard and warm, startling her. Instinctively, she looked up to meet the deep, dark
eyes of the man standing at the door.

The man stood before her, his gaze calm as he watched her, his tone flat, "Is this really how you are as a
mother? Unable to even remember your own child’s birthday?"
Daisy pressed her lips together, feeling a bit indignant at the tone, faintly responding, "What do you know...?"
"I might not know anything, but as a mother allowing your child to wander the streets in the middle of the night,
your heart is a bit too big, isn’t it?"
"If I hadn't passed by there last night, where would he be now? A police station, or in the hands of a human
trafficker?"

"I..." Daisy pressed her lips, feeling somewhat wronged under his accusations, "I really am busy..."
Edward gave a small, chilly laugh, not saying a word, but the cold chuckle carried a hint of ridicule.
