He was so stubborn! | felt like I was hitting a wall trying to talk to alpha Henry.

But at least he hadn’t suspected | was the alpha-ranked female werewolf. Sometimes, stereotypes
had their use-at least in his eyes, | was just a wolf-less omega. There was no way | could be
connected to someone that powerful.
1 took a deep breath and decided to drop the subject. Worst case, I'd sneak off to the research
center on my
own.
“Let’s put that aside for now. Lethelp you treat the injured soldiers‘ wounds. That much should
be acceptable, right?”
Alpha Henry raised a brow. “I’ll have the other wolf doctors handle that. You’re coming withfor
a full medical exam.”
“Oh. if he’s the one personally giving us the full-body exam, | really wouldn’t mind,” Ella teased in
my head.
Damn it. Why won't he listen to me? Why doesn’t he trust me?! | grumbled.
“It's normal.” Ella said calmly. “In his eyes, you're just an omega who can’t protect herself.”

“Kiss him!” Ella laughed, rolling around in my consciousness. “I swear, he'll be so thrown off he won't know what

Fine, let's try it. | didn’t believe for a second a kiss could change alpha Henry's mind.
With that, | reached up and hooked my arms around his neck, which was still smeared with blood and grime.
Ignoring the sharp tang of rust in the air, | kissed him on the lips.
His lips were cold and firm, laced with the taste of war and smoke. In that instant, alpha Henry's body tensed,
rigid like stone. But that tension only lasted a beat-
The next second, his burning breath swept over me. He wrapped his arms aroundtightly, as if he wanted to
crushagainst his chest and fuseinto his bones. He took over the kiss completely, fierce and forceful,
exploring and claiming with an intensity that left no room for resistance.
The air was still thick with the metallic stench of blood, but in his suffocatingly fierce kiss, | found myself closing
my eyes without even realizing it. My senses were consumed by the heat of his breath, the smoke- laced clash of
our lips and tongues, and the pounding of his heart against my chest. The kiss was bitter with blood and fire-but
it surred something deep in my soul Maybe... | really would remember this for the rest of my life.
When it ended, alpha Henry letgo. | immediately lifted my head and declared without hesitation. “I'm
staying!”

He frowned, and | added, “I'll prove myself. Giveone day. If by tomorrow you still think I'm useless, I'll leave
without a word.”
Only then did alpha Henry reluctantly nod. He didn’t mention sendingaway again.
In my mind. Ella purred smugly. “See? | told you it would work- As our mate, he’s naturally drawn to you. Just
give him a little tug, and he’ll do whatever you want.”
...| was completely speechless. | never thought I'd be able to control alpha Henry like this.

Henry’s POV
I agreed to let Aubrey stay, not because | believed she could help, but because | couldn’t bear to
send her
away.
Just one day-I was confident I could keep her safe for that long. But no more than that. There
weren't just enemies out there trying to ambush us. There was also the damn T flu. She was an
omega. Her body was already weak. It wouldn’t take much for her to get infected.
In my mind, Callen was still roaring, accusing me. “Why did you give up chasing our fate mate?! She
chere for us! She’s been watching over us this whole time!”
“No, she didn’t wantto find her,” | replied. “Otherwise, she wouldn’t have vanished the moment
the fight ended. She didn’t want to see me.”
I didn’t know why, but maybe... like me, she had someone she’d already recognized as her mate.
