Chapter 190 The Truth Exposed
Aubrey’s POV
“What did you just say?”

I stepped forward, grabbed Waylon by the collar, and yanked him toward me. “You wantto give
up on Alpha Henry?!”
Waylon was a gamma-ranked werewolf medic. He clutched at his collar with both hands, but he
couldn’t break free from my grip-and that only made him more furious.
He shouted, “Am | wrong? We’ve already made enough progress in our research to raise our value a
hundredfold! Why should we risk everything for someone who’s already dying? You may be willing
to throw yourself into the fire, Ms. Mary, but I’m not!”
“I’m just a gamma. I’m scared I'll die out there! | don’t want to die! If I'm dead, nothing else
matters!”
1 wanted to punch him. I really did. But | held myself back. | stared at him for a long, heavy moment,
then swept my gaze over the others.
“Is that how the rest of you feel too?”
The other eight medics all wore conflicted expressions. No one said a word. Waylon let out a cold
laugh.
“Ms. Mary, I'll admit it—you’re a special omega. You’ve got remarkable medical skills. But after
everything we’ve learned about the Kajit virus... | honestly don’t believe we'll find a cure before
Alpha Henry’s body collapses.”
“If even you don’t believe in yourselves, then of course you’ll never find a cure,” | snapped. “Let’s
be blunt-the direction of this research cfrom me. The blood samples cfrom me. Most of the
key data cfrom me. Over half of the progress you’ve made is because of me!”
What I said was the truth-but it still made their faces darken.
I crossed my arms and went on. “You start backing out the moment things get dangerous. Do any of
you even remember the oath you took when you chose to becwerewolf medics?”
1 gave them a cold, sweeping glance.
“] vow to dedicate myself to medicine. I pledge to do all in my power to ease the pain of
werewolves, to support the perfection of health, to uphold the sanctity and honor of medical
practice, to save lives and heal the wounded, to accept hardship without complaint, and to pursue
excellence-devoting my life to the advancement of medicine and the physical and mental health of

“Have you all forgotten?”
Several of them paled under my words.
| paused, then added, “Saving Alpha Henry means saving yourselves. Sure, right now the virus is only affecting
spacks in the rainforest region. But can any of you guarantee it won't spread here?”
“No one can! And I'll tell you now-if we don’t find a solution fast, this virus will sweep across the entire Northern
Continent. When that happens, what are you going to do? How will you protect your families, your friends?”
That struck a nerve.

The medics looked at each other, stunned into silence. Finally, Ginnie let out a sigh and said,
go with “Ms. Mary, don’t be upset. Of course we remember why we chere. I'll the tcomes. Let Xavier
stay behind.”
“No. He can’t handle everything alone,” | shot back immediately.
“Then I'm not going!” Waylon shouted. “I'd rather give up whatever perks the Miguel family promised than die
out there!”
gave a cold laugh and didn’t even bother acknowledging him. There was no way he could shift and sneak out-
not here. This was the Miguel family’s virus lab, and it was guarded by beta werewolf sentries. He had no chance
of getting away unnoticed..
| turned to the rest of the medics and asked, “What about you?”

The lab fell silent for a moment. Then the only female medic in the group stepped forward and spoke first. “Ms.
Mary, Ill go with you. I don’t want my mother or my daughter catching. this virus someday.”
“I'm going too!” said a beta medic named Chen Yan. “I can’t betray the oath I swore. I'm willing to dedicate
myself to the medical future of the Northern werewolves!”
“I'm in!”
too!”
One after another, the rest of the medics voiced their support. In an instant, Waylon was completely isolated.
“You're all insane...” he growled, glaring at the others.
| ignored him. | had no intention of using him anymore. A medic who only saw value in self- preservation wasn’t
someone | could trust. Even if he changed his mind and asked to come, | wouldn't let him. If anything went
wrong out there, he'd be the first to run.
“Remember, | only have one requirement-Alpha Henry must live. And | truly believe we can crack this virus
before he dies. If we succeed, I'll make sure every ounce of fand fortune you want is yours.”
When | said it, my voice was solemn-like | was declaring an oath.
The others were visibly stirred by my conviction, their morale lifted in an unspoken wave of determination.
Seeing their energy rally again, | gave a faint nod and tapped the tabletop with my fingers.
“Think about the Miguel family’s resources. Think about Alpha Henry's power and status. Don’t be shortsighted.
Becoming the person who saves Shadowmoon Pack’s alpha-and the leader of the entire Northern werewolf
community-is worth more than any temporary paycheck.”
One tough push, followed by a sweet reward. Just like that, these senior medics were fired up. If they really could
save Alpha Henry, it would be the opportunity of a lifetime.
| finally felt a bit of relief and began discussing pain suppression protocols with Ginnie.

1 waved it off and didn’t go in, letting Perry push the wheelchair away.

I had chere to find Aubrey, but | ended up witnessing something else entirely.

Aubrey... she was far more capable than I'd ever imagined. | didn’t know whether I should feel
proud or sad. | wanted to be someone she needed-not someone who needed her protection.
Her words echoed through my mind again and again. She said all she wanted was forto live.
And she truly believed she could make that happen. Compared to everyone else who secretly
thought | was as good as dead, her unwavering faith warmed something deep inside
me.
If before | couldn’t bear to die, now I couldn’t afford to.
No matter how painful it got, | had to keep holding on-for her. How could I let her down?
She was even willing to risk her life for me, heading into such a dangerous place...
“Lock Waylon up. Everything abouthas to stay confidential. If he won’t cooperate, then we’ll
just have to ‘inconvenience’ him a little.”
Perry nodded. “Understood. I'll handle it right away.
Xavier stood beside me, hesitating before he spoke. “Alpha, maybe | should be the one to lead the
team. Let Ms. Mary stay behind.”
I rubbed my temples, already feeling a headache con.
“1 don’t even know when she started getting ideas like this.”
Xavier said, “1 only found out today too... Ms. Mary really does care about you. | think even among
fated mates, very few would go to the lengths she has.”
At that, | couldn’t help but smile faintly. Few? More like none. When disaster strikes, most wolves
run for their lives. But not my Aubrey. She’s different.
Xavier sighed again.
“And that’s exactly why I don’t think she’ll back down. This is the only path that offers progress
right now. But she’s still so young... If anything happened to her, it would be a tragedy. Letgo
instead.”
1 shook my head. “You're too old. You can’t go. Cam will lead the team. Let Professor Winnie take
command. As for Aubrey.../she’s absolutely not allowed to go.”
