Chapter 1887
It was a rare sight to see Colby and Griffin drunk, almost like spotting a unicorn. Even when they were knocked
out, their bodies had this instinctive self-defense mode. Anyone bold enough to disturb them might get an
unexpected and potentially dangerous reaction.
"Why don't we just let them be?" Alec suggested. "Worst case, they'll wake up with a few sore muscles."
Alec didn't buy the idea that these tough old guys were so delicate that a night on the floor would do any real
damage.
"What was that?" Fiona jumped in, not waiting for Alec to finish as she reached out to steady Harold. As she did,
a bottle silently slipped from Harold's pocket, landing on the floor with a soft thud.
Remarkably, the bottle didn't break, hinting it wasn't your average glass.
Fiona set Harold down and curiously picked up the bottle. "Wow, this stuff's tough. Didn't even chip."
Intrigued, she twisted off the cap, and a unique scent hit her nostrils. Alec quickly swatted her hand away,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtfrowning. "Don't mess with Mr. Aldridge's things."
"He's my uncle; he won't care," Fiona shot back, though she dutifully screwed the cap back on.
At that moment, she thought she heard Harold muttering something, so she leaned in to catch his words.
"Slow...?"
"Slow what?"
"No clue," Fiona shrugged, baffled by her uncle's cryptic words.
That night, maybe stirred by all the reminiscing, Harold's mind wandered back to when he first joined the
military. He was young and a bit reckless back then.
The day Sophie gave him a watch, he suddenly told Gordon he wanted to enlist, He wanted to be a man like
Colby Colby had always been his role model. An overseas legend, it was hard not to see him as an idol.
He couldn't shake the image of James taking Sophie away from him. He always told himself that a man had to be
strong enough to fight for the woman he loved. His brother surprisingly agreed.
The next day, he was all set to join the Costello family's regiment for training. The Costellos had a long-standing
influence in the military, and their training was notoriously tough.
On day one, Harold shaved his head. Thanks to his physical prowess, he was ready for assignments after just six
months. In the regiment, cut off from the outside world, he had no clue what was happening beyond the
barracks. Nor did he know how Sophie was doing.
When he finally got his hands on a phone, he found out Sophie had been kidnapped, tossed into the sea, and
nearly lost her life. He wanted to break out of the regiment, but his six roommates had to pull him back.
Military discipline was strict, and leaving during training was out of the question. For days, he was a bundle of
nerves, ready to snap at anyone who got too close.
The next the got his phone, he saw the news that Sophie had moved away. Amid his relief, he realized
Sophie was starting fresh. Sadly... he couldn't be there with her.
