Chapter 566: I'm Not Going Anywhere "Mission One: Find out who is poisoning Carl. Reward: 5,000 Good Points." Another ding! followed immediately.
"Mission Two: Find the cure to the poison. Reward: 15,000 Good Points." Nnenna froze, her eyes flickering. The first mission made sense, who wouldn't want to find the culprit? But the cure? Her stomach tightened. Where would she even begin? "Love System," she pressed quickly, "can't you just cure him? You're not even from this world. You cfrom that man in the garden, so no matter how rare this poison is, it should be nothing to you." "Yes. For me, it is nothing." Her heart leapt, then crashed as the system added: "But you don't have enough Good Points to purchase a cure. The cost is far beyond what you currently hold. So, your options are simple, either race to acquire more points, which I do not advise, or... you find the cure manually." Nnenna's fists clenched. "And how am I supposed to do that?" "Don't worry. I will tell you where to start. You have just enough Good Points for that information." "Fine," Nnenna agreed immediately. Her voice was steady, but her chest tightened. "How long do I have?" "You have one month... before Carl dies." The system's words landed like a blade. Nnenna's body shuddered before she could stop herself.
She hated this, hated the growing phobia that cwith the thought of losing her loved ones. But now wasn't the tto break down.
First things first, she told herself firmly. I need to find out who's poisoning him. Otherwise, even if I leave to search for a cure, he'll just be poisoned again.
"What are you thinking about?" Carl's raspy, exhausted voice pulled her back.

His lips curved into the faintest smirk, though his eyes were shadowed. "To everyone except my closest confidants, I'm about to die in a few days. I want the enemy to believe it, let them drop their guard, get comfortable, and make a mistake. They always do." Nnenna frowned. For sreason, the certainty in his tone sounded too practiced... as if he had lived through this exact scenabefore.
"How do you know?" she asked carefully.
Carl leaned back, his expression unreadable. "Because this isn't my first time." Her heart skipped.
His voice lowered, edged with quiet steel. "My parents died when I was a child. I'm the only heir to the throne. Killingwould open the way for my enemies... or my charming two faced relatives... to seize power. Since then, I've been poisoned, hunted, set up for 'accidents', more times than I can count." He paused, eyes momentarily distant.
"In fact, if it wasn't for the old man who brought you here, his wife, and a few others I can trust... I wouldn't have lived long enough to reach my teenage years." Carl froze mid sentence. He realized what he had just said, and worse, who he had said it to.
As expected, Nnenna's face turned pale. Her eyes were wide with horror, her lips trembling. She looked terrified, furious at the cruelty he had endured, and heartbreakingly sad, all at once.
Carl quickly tried to calm her down.
"It's nothing new," he said with forced ease. "I've just learned to be careful over the years. This time... they caughtoff guard, and the enemy is hiding deeper than usual. But don't worry, I'll be fine." Then his tone shifted, firmer now.
"As for you, you need to go. Leave Riverum." "Go?" Nnenna repeated, shocked. "Why do I need to go?" "Because until I find out who's behind this, I don't want you here," Carl explained steadily, though his chest rose and fell with effort. "All this time, I never wanted you to cbecause the thorns aroundweren't gone yet. If it were safe, I would have brought you long ago. But now, it's even more dangerous. You must go back home." Nnenna's expression hardened. She shook her head, voice firm as iron.
"I'm not going anywhere. I am home. Hisn't a place, Carl, it's where the people you love are. You know that." Her eyes glistened but her tone carried conviction.
"So whether it's Prigrian, Lionara, or Riverum, those are my homes, because the people I love are there." Carl blinked at her, momentarily speechless. A weary smile tugged at his lips. Despite the weakness in his body, he lifted a hand and gently ruffled her hair.
The motion drained what little energy he had, but the soft strands against his palm were worth it. For a few brief moments, he forgot his pain.
"I understand," Carl said softly, "but this isn't your fight. If you're really that worried, you can tell Arthur didn't tell him before because O thought could handle it myself.
But... if it'll put you at ease, I'll ask for his help, alright?" His voice was coaxing, almost negotiating, yet he couldn't hide the way he still spoiled her even now. Nnenna's answer was immediate, her eyes sharp with resolve.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here, to help you. Not just to catch whoever's behind this, but to find the cure too." "Nnenna-" Carl tried to make his tone stern, but his illness stole the force from his words. It cout weaker than he intended.
"You can't change my mind," Nnenna cut him off firmly. "So don't bother trying."
She knew she was being stubborn, maybe even childish, but she also knew she was right. Two heads were better than one, and one of those heads cwith a system. If she stayed, Carl's chances of surviving would increase. And besides, the mission had made it compulsory.
"I can help, Carl. I really can." Her voice softened, but determination blazed in her eyes. "I'm not just top in my department, I'm one of the best in my entire year. You know how smart I am. My martial arts were personally taught by Arthur, so I can defend myself. And my strategy..."
