Chapter 569: Annoying Protocols "And by the way, move my things and a bed to his room. The room is big enough for tens of people. I'll be staying there from now on. " The housekeeper froze, then shook his head firmly. "I can't allow that, Your Highness. You just said you won't disturb him, but staying in the sroom with him would do exactly that. You already have your own room, especially designed by him. It will make him happy if you stay there." Nnenna frowned. What's with all this resistance? she wondered.

But before she could press further, the housekeeper's expression smoothed into a polite smile. "I'll go upstairs now to make sure everything is fine with His Highness. Please enjoy your dinner." With that, he bowed slightly and walked off, leaving her stewing in unanswered questions.

Nnenna was displeased, but also considerate. Maybe it was just protocol, every castle had its own rules. But staying so far from Carl's room didn't sit right with her at all. If anything, it only made her more restless.

She decided she would ask him directly. If she couldn't move into his room, then at least something close by. Locating his quarters from memory, she walked over. The moment she approached, the door opened automatically.

Inside, Nanny spun around, startled, then relaxed when she saw her. She was at the outer section of the room, carefully arranging dishes.

"What are you doing here? Haven't they served your food already? You should be eating by now," Nanny scolded lightly.

"They haven't," Nnenna replied, though she wasn't exactly complaining.

"How irresponsible of them to keep you waiting," Nanny muttered, shaking her head. "I'll handle it once I'm done with His Highness's dinner." "No worries, I'm not angry. Lethelp you with that," Nnenna offered, stepping closer to the neatly laid out dishes.

"No, I can handle it myself," Nanny snapped, sharper than intended. Then, catching herself, she softened with a sigh. "Sorry. It's just... I've gotten used to taking care of him, handling everything myself. Especially with the current situation, we don't know who might be trying to poison him. So we have to be extra, extra careful." Nnenna nodded slowly. It was good to be thorough, after all. "Don't worry, I understand. But I'm not an outsider. I would never harm him, you don't have to guard againsttoo," she explained.

She knew she had just arrived today, and trust would take tto build, but still, they needed to see she was on Carl's side.

"I understand that, Princess," Nanny said gently, "but it's protocol. Today is your first day here, and you don't know our rules yet. Protocol demands that I arrange all of His Highness's dinners myself, no servants involved. That way we can be sure no poison slips through his food. This system has been in place for many years, and it has kept His Highness safe from his enemies. I hope you can understand and follow our protocols." Nnenna paused. Nanny had a point. Besides, Carl himself had said she needed to follow the instructions of his allies. If this method had kept him safe for years, then she couldn't really argue against it.

Plus... food wasn't the only way poison could reach him. Air, perfume, even bathing water could be laced with it. If his meals were already protected by a trusted ally, then maybe she should turn her focus elsewhere.

"Okay, I understand," Nnenna said at last. "But I'm at least going to see him before I go downstairs." She didn't wait for Nanny's reply and stepped further into the room.

"Hey, Carl," she teased, her voice playful. "Your castle has more rules than even Arthur's. And he's Arthur, the crown prince of protocol." Carl chuckled, his lips curving into a smile he hadn't worn in a long time. "It's just to keepsafe. Over the years, all these rules have been... very effective." He didn't even bother asking which one she meant, he knew there were plenty. Instead, his eyes lingered on her, softer now. "So... how do you like your room?" he asked, almost boyishly eager for her answer.

"It's fine," Nnenna said with a small shrug. But when she noticed the hopeful look in his eyes, her own expression softened. "I like it very much." She hesitated, then added honestly, "It's just... I would've preferred if it was closer to yours." "Closer?" Carl repeated, raising a brow, though his smile widened. "How close again could it possibly be?" His laugh was warm, low, and it filled the room in a way that tugged at her chest.

Nnenna shrugged again, her lips twitching. The castle was enormous, so in truth, her room was closer than most. Still, probably just another protocol: no one stayed too close to the future king's chambers.

"Have you eaten yet?" Carl asked gently, his voice holding the faintest trace of concern.

"Not yet. I wanted to eat with you," Nnenna replied. Then she puffed her cheeks and put on a mock serious tone. "But protocol demands that the future king eats alone, and everyone else must go to the dining hall." Carl laughed, the sound genuine and unguarded. He hadn't realized how much he had missed this in the past few months, someone breaking through the walls of formality with something as simple as warmth. His gaze lingered on her longer than he intended.

"I guess sof those protocols will have to be adjusted now that you're here," Carl said softly. "Don't worry, you can eat with me. Nanny, serve the food please."

Within moments, Nanny appeared, her steps precise as she began setting dishes on the smal dining table. She added another chair for Nnenna, but her expression betrayed clear disapproval. "Your Highness," she said carefully, "the rules are there to keep you safe. They've kept you safe for years. I don't see why they should change now."

Carl nodded, unbothered by her those rules resistance. "You're righwhile. But have protectedall this while. But we're not talking about an outsider here. It's my little sister."
